What makes Drama Llamas unique #1

In the run up to the opening of the Coulsdon Drama Llamas, which is this Saturday coming, Jay and I are going to write a few blog posts about what makes our classes unique. I drew the short straw… you can come back tomorrow for Jay’s post.

We are both working professionals. This means for 20+ years I have worked and know many casting directors and agents. I am lucky enough to be represented by one of the top talent agencies in the country. Our direct interaction with casting directors, agents, and bookers means we know what they are looking for, and how to present to get work. We also sometimes invite agencies who specialise in getting work for children to our drama class performances.

Children [aged 4 to 16] from my drama classes have landed parts in West End shows (including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and Elf The Musical), along with TV roles and other commercial work.

I haven’t included my further education pupils, whom I teach in accredited drama schools, as they are training to become professionals, so of course they go on to work professionally. Another thing that makes us unique is that Jay and myself, have both taught and gone to top accredited drama schools. This means we can help [when the time is right] with drama school auditions.

Now, of course, all the above is just the cherry on top, but I was asked to write about what makes our classes stand out from the others… and so that’s today’s blog. I’ll see you all again soon, but to finish with here’s a quick, off the top of my head and by no means exhaustive, list of benefits drama lessons for children bring:

1. They will be challenged and become more confident in trying new things and taking risks

2. They will improve their communication skills

3. They will learn and enhance their teamwork skills

4. They will learn to understand and control their feelings in a more positive way

5. They will have so much fun!
